All about control collars
Pet
technology has grown tremendously and continues to advance at a
surprising rate. As new pet products become available, pet owners have
access to the most effective and beneficial training solutions for
their pets. Control collars such as the dog barking collar now come in
various types including shock, aversive sound and citronella. The
increasingly popular electronic dog fence also comes complete with a
collar receiver unit to ensure dogs' safety within a perimeter mapped
out by the owner.
Finding the right dog
barking collar
The
most pricey and often reported as the most ineffective is the shock
collar also known as a remote electronic dog collar. A wave of electric current runs through the collar to create a
shock to the dog's body. Many find this form of discipline and training
inhumane. Furthermore, some dogs may be able to tolerate the shock and
not respond to it at all.
Secondly, an aversive sound collar may hinder constant dog barking.
Collar types such as these are designed to discharge a high frequency
sound to distract the dog from continuously barking. Depending on the
product, the sound is triggered by either the sound of the dog's bark
or by the owner. Although more effective than the shock collar, the
sound collar still has a lower success rate.
The last and most capable of these collars is the citronella collar.
When the microphone in the collar detects noise, it will spray a gentle
mist of citronella toward the nose. Since dogs do not like the
citronella smell, the dog will stop barking as a result. Be careful of
the microphone though. The built-in microphones are often sensitive to
sound and may be activitated without the dog barking.
Purpose of the invisible fence dog collar
Collars made
for invisible fences are another form of control collars. When
purchasing an invisible fence, dog collar receiver units are included
in the package as they are an important part of your dog's adjusting to
the new fence system. When placed around the dog's neck, the collar
will beep when it approaches the outlined perimeter to warn the dog
that it is approaching the "keep away" zone. The invisible fence dog
collar will then deliver a light shock if the dog ignores the warning
and proceeds further towards the specified boundaries.
